CHATTANOOGA, Tn – Troy dropped its first game of a doubleheader Saturday to Tennessee Tech 3-0 (20-25, 19-25, 19-25) from Maclellan Gym in Chattanooga.
Troy (3-4), who had its lowest team hitting percentage on the season (.102) were led by Cheyenne Hayes with eight kills and Julia Brooks, who had a season-high six blocks.
Taylor Dorsey and Madolyn Isringhausen led Tennessee Tech (5-2) with 10 digs each, and Ashley Hand led all players in the match with 31 assists.
"Kudos to Tennessee Tech, they dominated the server pass game, and it put us on our heels, head coach Josh Lauer said. "We struggled to find a rhythm this morning, so we will regroup and get ready for another tough match tonight against Chattanooga.
Set One: Troy would jump out to an early lead with a Caitlin Cooper kill to start things off, followed by a Lacey Jeffcoat ace. Both teams would trade points seeing no more than two points separate the sides until the Golden eagles led 20-19. From there, the Golden Eagles would get back-to-back service aces from McKenna Young to secure the set 25-20.
Set Two: In another tightly contested set that saw 12 tie scores and six lead changes. Troy got out to their largest match lead after an Amra Anderson kill extended the Trojans lead to 10-6. But the Golden eagles would come out of a timeout with a 4-0 run to tie things up. With things knotted up once again at 19, Tennessee Tech would end the set on a six-point run and take a two-set lead at the break.
Set Three: Trojans did all they could to get something going in the third set. Alison Siersma led the Trojans with four kills in the set, including one to bring Troy within a point and make the score 16-15. But the Golden eagles were determined not to let Troy mount a comeback and went on two runs of four straight points to stretch the lead and win the set 25-19.
Up Next: Troy finishes play in the Chattanooga Classic Saturday at 6 p.m. as they face off with host Chattanooga.
