MOBILE, Ala. – Despite a seventh inning comeback attempt, the Trojans fall short in the regular season finale to South Alabama, 7-6, Saturday at Jaguar Field.

The Trojans (34-13, 17-6 Sun Belt) plated three runs in the top of the seventh, capped off by a two-out, two-run home run by Katie Lively, but were not able to plate the fourth run needed to tie the contest.

South Alabama (26-167, 13-9 Sun Belt) struck first when Mackenzie Brasher got on with a single and came around to score off a wild pitch.

The Trojans evened the game in the top of third after back-to-back-to-back singles that scored Jade Sinness.

The Jaguars answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 advantage.

The nail bitter continued into the top of the fourth as Ashlan Ard rocketed a two-run long ball to even the game once again.

A pair of walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for South Alabama in the bottom of the fifth. Two bases-loaded walks by relievers Libby Baker and Kynsley Rae Blasigame gave the Jaguars a two-run advantage.

Troy threatened with a pair of runners on in the top of the sixth but couldn't scratch a run across.

In the bottom of the sixth, South Alabama tacked on two runs off three hits and an error to take a 7-3 lead heading into the final frame.

After Katie Webb got on with a double to left center, Troy went on to bring the game back within one, but ultimately fell short.

Leanna Johnson (19-7) suffered the loss for the Trojans allowing five runs off four hits and four walks.

After entering in relief during the fourth, Oliva Lackie (16-9) picked up the win scattering three runs and three hits.

NOTABLE

Despite the loss, the Trojans set a program record with the fewest road losses (three).
Troy also matched a program-best in fewest road conference losses (one).
Katie Lively led the Trojans offensively going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

NEXT UP
The Trojans now turn their attention to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The tournament will begin on Tuesday at the Troy Softball Complex while Troy's run will begin on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
