Troy Downs UT Arlington, Falls in the Nightcap to South

TROY, Ala. – Troy downed UT Arlington, 3-1, early Friday afternoon to advance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, before ultimately falling to South Alabama, 10-6 in a heartbreaking, thriller Friday night at the Troy Softball Complex.

Troy (36-14) avenged a Wednesday 2-1 extra-inning loss to UT Arlington (17-34), earning the 3-1 victory that advanced the host school to the matchup against the Jaguars.

Game One: Troy 3, UTA 1
The Trojans struck first in the second frame to take an early 1-0 advantage. A single by Audra Thompson and a walk put a pair of runners on with two outs for Logan Calhoun.

Calhoun roped an RBI single to center field, plating the first run of the contest.
Â
In the bottom of the third, UTA loaded the bases with a pair of walks and a single. Kynsley Rae Blasingame (6-1) entered in relief of Leanna Johnson with no outs. Blasingame retired the next three straight to keep the Mavericks off the board.

UTA tied the contest in the bottom of the fifth with a well-executed, two-out double steal, but Troy's offense refused to back down.

Jade Sinness kickstarted a two-out rally with her first hit of the tournament. A walk put a pair of runners on for cleanup hitter Kelly Horne. Horne then rocketed a double to right-center

Blasingame retired six of the final seven batters to secure the win.

JoJo Valencia (4-8) suffered the loss for the Mavericks after allowing three runs off seven hits and six walks.

Game Two: South Alabama 10, Troy 6
For the third time of the tournament, the Trojans got on the board first using a solo shot from Katie Webb to take a 1-0 lead after one.

Libby Baker then hung zeroes in three consecutive innings to send the game into the bottom of the fourth, where Troy's offense ignited for five runs off six hits.

Katelynn de Leon kick started the frame with a single to right field. Ashlan Ard followed with a bunt single to put a pair of runners on for nine-hole hitter Calhoun.

Calhoun roped a double into left field to plate the first two runs of the Trojan plate appearance.

An infield single by Sinness and a stolen base put another pair of runners in scoring position for Webb. Webb then smashed a base-clearing double to plate another pair of runs for the good guys.

Horne capped off the five-run affair with her third long ball of the tournament, this time a two-run shot.

South Alabama answered in the top half of the fifth with five runs of their own to bring the game back within one.

After each side stranded runners in the sixth, the Jaguars sealed the game away with five runs in the top of the seventh, capped off by a three-run home run by Belle Wolfenden.

- On the season, Troy suffered just three road set back. The three road losses are a new program record.
- The Trojans recorded three power five conference wins, the most since 2012.
- Troy swept five conference series for the first time since 2005.
- The Trojans broke a four-game losing streak in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, dating back to 2018.
- Troy has now recorded three straight 30-win seasons.
- The Trojans' 15 losses are the fewest losses suffered in a seasons since 1998.
