Booher, Men's Throws Highlight Day One at SBC Championships

MOBILE, Ala. – The men's field squad highlighted a strong day one effort for Troy at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. Michael Alvernaz (64.08m) earned gold in the hammer throw while freshman Cole Stewart (65.53m) took home bronze in the javelin.
Gracie Booher was the third Trojan to medal on day one after earning silver in the 10,000m. The freshman shattered the school record with a time of 35:43.63, shaving over 49 seconds off the previous record.
The Trojan men totaled 28 team points after two events to lead the team competition after day one. Connor Brookman secured five points for Troy with a sixth-place toss in the hammer and a seventh-place throw in the javelin. Marek Taskar (52.24m) finished just off the podium in the javelin to tally five points for the men while Austin Snyder added two points with a seventh-place mark in the hammer.
Naquita Williams took four points for the Trojan women by placing fifth in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 55.89m while Kara Moore placed ninth in the 10,000m with a personal-best time of 38:16.31.
Day one consisted mostly of preliminary events with several Trojans grabbing qualifying times. Lauren Locke and Cadi Rowe each snagged a top-four finish in their respective heats to qualify for the 1500m final on Saturday.
Jasmine Riley advanced into the 200m final by winning her heat in a time of 24.42. On the men's side, Matthew Likely and Alex Robinson each won their 200m prelim heats to qualify for the final. Latrell Murray grabbed the final qualifying spot in the 400H to make Saturday's final in the event.
