TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics and head volleyball coach Josh Lauer are pleased to announce the installation of a new Taraflex FIVB Sport M Plus volleyball court inside Trojan Arena. Troy becomes the first school in the Sun Belt Conference and one of just 49 schools across all NCAA Divisions to play on a state-of-the-art Taraflex FIVB court.
"The addition of our new Taraflex FIVB court in Trojan Arena is extremely exciting," Lauer said. "A lot of planning and work has gone into this project and to finally see it completed is amazing. I'm really happy for our current and future players because our new court will give them the opportunity to compete on the best volleyball surface in the world. The new floor will have a positive impact on multiple facets of our program from recruiting, to competition and to overall program pride. Without a doubt, Trojan Arena is now one of the top collegiate volleyball venues in the entire country."
Taraflex FIVB is the official court for the Federation of International Volleyball worldwide and has been selected as the official Olympic volleyball court surface for 11 consecutive games beginning with Montreal in 1976 to Tokyo in 2021. Nine of the AVCA top 25 teams in Division I play on a Taraflex FIVB court.
The Taraflex FIVB court, manufactured by Gerflor and installed by Southeastern Surfaces & Equipment, offers a 35 percent improvement in shock absorption over a traditional wooden court and a 73 percent improvement on the Impact Protection Index.
"This is a major enhancement for our volleyball program and one that is important on multiple levels," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "The new playing surface provides a heightened commitment to the safety and well-being of our student-athletes due to the state-of-the-art material used to construct the court. Additionally, thanks to our partnership with ESPN, the exposure and brand recognition for Troy Volleyball will be at an all-time high due to the vibrant design of the court and its strong integration of Troy Athletics and Sun Belt Conference branding. This new court is the next step for Troy Volleyball as they continue to establish themselves as a premier program amongst their peers. We are very thankful to our great fan base for their amazing support and donations that propelled this project to completion."
The design features a cardinal playing surface adorned with the Power T logo. A gray boarder branded with Troy Volleyball, the Sun Belt Conference logo and Troy sword emoji surrounds the inner cardinal area.
"I'm so happy that we can provide our players with a competitive environment that will reduce the risk of impact injuries and allow them to safely and confidently compete with relentless effort every night," Lauer said. "I'm also extremely thankful for the hard work and commitment to this project from our Troy Volleyball Family. This project has optimized our motto of 'Build the Empire.' It signifies that Troy is serious about volleyball and that we are serious about providing the very best environment and experience possible for our volleyball student-athletes."
