TROY, Ala. – Coming off back-to-back second place finishes, the Troy women's golf team heads to Jacksonville, Florida and the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club for the UNF Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
The Trojans are coming off one of their top performances in school history after finishing second with a 10-over-par 874 at the First Coast Classic two weeks ago. Nicole Lorup paced the Trojans with a 5-under-par 211 for which she earned Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
"We've got some really good momentum right now and are playing with a lot of confidence," head coach Randy Keck said. "We're really starting to gel as a team and we have a professional feel going on – the way we are practicing and the taking care of business in the practice rounds. We've got some older and mature players and you can see that coming through with our play."
Lorup leads the Trojans with a 1.18 score vs. par and a 73.00 stroke average. She has four top 10 finishes in Troy's six events this year and is responsible for five of the Trojans' 10 rounds under par on the season, including all three at the First Coast Classic.
"She is such a tough player," Keck said. "She doesn't make many mistakes, but when she does, she is able to fight her way through almost every bad situation and usually finds a way to make par."
Anna Claire Little is off to a hot start to her spring season with back-to-back top 10 performances after tying for third in the spring opener and tying for ninth last time out. Little is averaging a 73.80 so far in the spring with all five of her rounds counting towards the team card.
Keck, who celebrated his 50th birthday during Sunday's practice round, will also turn to ShaeLee Scarberry after she's turned in a pair of top 25 finishes in the spring and Elisabeth Preus, who tied with Little for third place in the opener, for the seventh time in seven events this season. Judith Castro will round out Troy's lineup as she will be making her fourth appearance of the season, while Elizabeth Caldarelli will play as an individual.
"The course should set up a lot like the one we played a couple weeks ago in Jacksonville," Keck said. "It's a good ball strikers' course and we're going to have to drive the ball well and have good iron shots. The greens are firm and fast, so controlling our iron shots to locate specific parts of the green will be crucial to our success."
