Troy Soccer Falls at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Troy soccer program fell 2-0 Saturday afternoon to the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the MSU Soccer Complex.
The difference in the contest was two first-half bulldog strikes in the 26th and 36th minutes respectively.
For the contest, the Trojans (4-10-1) were limited to just five shots. The setback snapped Troy's two-match winning streak and handed the Trojans their first loss of the spring slate.
Troy started the spring with a pair of victories over Alabama State (3-1) and Mercer (1-0, OT).
The Bulldogs (5-4-3) struck first Saturday afternoon when Monigo Karnley took a beautiful feed from Madison Cotta and fired a shot past Troy keeper Gaby Cossette.
With a goal to their ledger, MSU continued to buzz around the Trojan net, as Onyi Echegini ripped a pair of shots that were saved. The first shot was saved by Cossette, while the second shot was cleared off the line by a Trojan defender.
After earning a corner kick, Miss State's KK Pavatt shuttled the ball to Hailey Farrington-Bentil deep in the Trojans box. Farrington-Bentil deposited the ball past Cosette into the right-hand side of the net.
Following a pair of Bulldogs shots that were saved by Cossette, freshman Alicia Victoria ripped a shot that was saved by MSU keeper Hannah Pimentel with just 52 seconds to play in the opening period.
In the second half, the Trojans were able to attempt three shots, but none of the three were able to test Pimentel and the Bulldogs backline.
For the contest, Cossette made seven saves to set a new career-high.

• The loss snaps Troy's four-match non-conference winning streak.
• Cossette's previous career-high was six saves in Troy's last match against Mercer (Feb. 28).
• The keeper made 15 saves in Troy's three spring matches.
