PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Troy fired 20 birdies, paced by six from both Anna Claire Little and Elizabeth Caldarelli, in Monday's opening two rounds of the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic to finish the day in second place and just two shots off the lead. Tuesday's final round was washed out due to rain and the tournament was called following Monday's 36 holes of action.
Teams battled terrible conditions at the Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course as the course played wet and slow with golfers posting an average score of 82.67 for the two rounds. Troy's birdie total was the second most of the opening day while its 103 pars were eight more than any other team in the field.
Elisabeth Preus and Little tied for third place at 8-over par and are just two shots back of the lead. Presus opened at 6-over with a pair of birdies before coming back to shoot 2-over in the afternoon session with a birdie and just three bogeys. Little dropped three birdies in each of her rounds Monday; she shot 5-over in the first round and worked her way down to a 3-over 75 on her second trip.
Troy trailed Campbell by seven shots following the opening round, but the Trojans rallied with the low score of the day with a 12-over 300 in round two to close the deficit to just two shots. Troy finished a 12-shot advantage over third-place USC Upstate with Lipscomb and UNC Asheville rounding out the top five.
Nicole Lorup bounced back from a rocky opening round in which she shot 8-over 80 to fire a 2-over 74 in the second round. Her second round featured a birdie and just three bogeys as she climbed into eighth place and just four shots off the lead.
Caldarelli rounded out Troy's stranglehold of the top 10 with an 11-over 155 on the day to hold down the ninth spot on the leaderboard. She carded five birdies in the opening round en route to a 6-over 78 before adding one birdie in her 5-over second round. ShaeLee Scarberry finished just outside the top 10 in 16th spot at 14-over par following a solid showing in the second round in which she shot a 5-over second round.
Playing as individuals, Brooklyn Bostick tied for 21st place following rounds of 82 and 79 while Judith Castro finished 41st at 27-over par.
