TROY, Ala. – Coming off a second place finish to open its spring season, the Troy women's team returns to the course Monday and Tuesday at the First Coast Classic hosted by Western Kentucky at the par 72, 6,002-yard Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
Head coach Randy Keck will roll out the same lineup for the Trojans' second event of the spring as he did in last week's strong start that saw four Troy individuals finish in the top 10.
"That speaks to the depth of our lineup," Keck said. "I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to play the final round because I felt like we had a good chance to win if we did. We played really well in the second round on a course that had a bad setup for the first event of the spring; it gave us something to build on for this week."
Elisabeth Preus and Anna Claire Little tied for third place to pace the Trojans in last week's rain-shorted Lady Bison Bay Point Classic. The pair each shot 8-over for the 36-hole event where the average score for the field was well into the 80s. Preus climbed into second place on the season for the Trojans with a 3.76 score vs. par, while Little lowered her yearly average to 4.55 vs. par.
Nicole Lorup, Troy's leader overall with two rounds under par and a 1.79 score vs. par, finished strong last week with a 2-over 74 in the second round to finish eighth, while Elizabeth Caldarelli had by far her best performance in a Troy uniform as she tied for ninth place to lower her score vs. par to 6.18 for the year. ShaeLee Scarberry is tied for Lorup with two rounds under par this season and owns Troy's third-best score vs. par with a 3.86 mark on the year.
"This is a new tournament and a new course for us," Keck said. "It is a really good course and it going to play pretty difficult. It's a good ball strikers course with tough pin placements on big greens. This should help us because we are a strong iron team and hopefully, we'll be able to attack some of those pins."
