TROY, Ala. – Following a solid fall season, the Troy women's golf team opens its spring schedule at the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic hosted by Lipscomb in Panama City, Florida this week. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday at the par 72, 5,971-yard Nicklaus Course at Bay Point Golf Club.
"I think we'll play fairly well," head coach Randy Keck said. "It is still really early and we've had to battle some bad weather the past couple weeks. We're still playing our way into shape, just like every other year at this time, but we've had some bright spots in practice and they have worked really hard in the offseason."
Troy turned in top five team finishes in three of its four fall tournaments, including a third place finish out of 15 teams at the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Nicole Lourp led the Trojans with two rounds under par, two top 10 finishes and a 1.25 score vs. par in the fall. She enters the spring with a 73.35 career stroke average, which is the lowest in school history.
Lorup, ShaeLee Scarberry and Elisabeth Preus all tied with 11-of-12 rounds counting towards the team card in the fall. Scarberry tied Lorup with two rounds under par and finished the fall second with a 3.33 score vs. par, while Preus' 3.75 score vs. par was just behind Scarberry for third on the team.
"We have a really solid lineup one thru seven and the nice thing is we have some younger players who have stepped up over the break which has improved the depth of our lineup," Keck said.
Anna Claire Little will make her fourth appearance of the year after posting a 4.67 score vs. par in the fall. Elizabeth Caldarelli is also scheduled for her fourth appearance of the season and third in the lineup, while Judith Castro and Brooklyn Bostick will both play as individuals this week for the Trojans.
