TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will enter the Sun Belt Tournament as the No. 1 seed from the East Division, the Sun Belt announced Sunday afternoon. The tournament will be played March 5-8 in Pensacola, Fla. with all of Troy's games being played in Pensacola Bay Center Arena.
Troy earned the top seed in the East division with its Sun Belt record of 15-2. Despite last season's tournament not being played, this is Troy's second straight season earning the top spot in the conference tournament. Over the past two seasons, head coach Chanda Rigby has guided the Trojans to 31-4 record, the best record in the conference regardless of gender.
The Trojans, who earn a first round bye with the No. 1 seed, will play on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m. against the winner of West No. 4 Texas State and East No. 5 Georgia Southern. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Troy went 3-1 against Georgia Southern in the regular season but did not play Texas State due to the all division conference schedule. The Eagles and Bobcats will play on Friday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Pensacola State College.
If Troy wins its quarterfinal game on Saturday, it would play in the semifinals on Sunday, March 7 at 11 a.m. Monday's championship game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The Trojans are seeking their third Sun Belt Tournament title since 2016 and their fourth overall tournament crown (1997, 2016, 2017).
