Troy to Host UAB in First Midweek Contest of 2021

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team is back in action for its first midweek contest of the season Tuesday against in-state foe UAB. First pitch between the Trojans and Blazers is set for 6 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field.

The Trojans were one of the hottest hitting teams in the country on Opening Weekend. Troy leads the nation in home runs (10) and also ranks in the top five nationally in hits (45) and doubles (10).
Logan Cerny is coming off one of the best individual weekends in the country. Cerny was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week after he hit three home runs and two doubles in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Youngstown State. Cerny posted 7 RBIs and 16 total bases which tied a program single-game record set in 1990.
Kyle Gamble is projected to make his first start on the mound for the Trojans against the Blazers. The sophomore boasts a fastball that sits 85-88 and up to 89-90 mph and some deception in his delivery with a high spin rate.
Troy's relief pitchers inherited a total of six base runners on Opening Weekend and allowed none to score. The Trojan relief arms retired seven of 10 first batters they faced.
Nic Nolan emerged as an exciting newcomer after starting all four games of Opening Weekend at second base. The sophomore went 7-for-15 with two doubles and two RBIs and made several key plays defensively for the Trojans.
Troy's one-two punch of Rigsby Mosley and Drew Frederic continues to be an effective combo. Mosley is 4-for-4 at the plate this season when leading off an inning while Frederic recorded his fifth career four-hit game Saturday against the Penguins.

- The Blazers opened up the 2021 season with a 2-1 series victory over Valparaiso.
- Troy dropped its 2020 contest to UAB by a score of 2-5. The Trojans tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, but the Blazers plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory.
- Redshirt sophomore Jess Davis is currently eighth in UAB history in career stolen bases (59). Against Valparaiso, Davis stole a nation-leading five bases in three games on Opening Weekend. Davis also leads the Blazers with a .500 batting average.
