Men's Tennis Continues Dominate Play with Perfect HEB Invite

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Troy men's tennis teamed closed out the HEB Invitational Saturday afternoon with an impressive 4-3 victory over New Mexico State. The win gave the Trojans a perfect 2-0 record at the HEB Invitational and improved their record to 10-1 on the season.
Troy started out in a hole after doubles didn't go there way. The Trojans were able to win a match on court one from the pair of Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin but were unable to clinch the point with a win on either court two or three.
Trailing 1-0 entering singles play Troy needed to win four singles matches to win the day. After falling on court four and falling behind 2-0, Troy's margin for error was shrinking. The Trojans earned their first point of the day from Tasker on court six before tying the match at two all after Simkin closed out a tough two sets on court five.
Troy earned its first lead of the afternoon behind a three-set, come-from-behind victory from Manuel Bernard on court two. After falling on court one it all came down to Amer Bedwan on court three. The senior, who dropped set one, dug deep and won the final two sets of the match to clinch Troy's 10th win of the season.
The Trojans will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Chattanooga and again on Saturday when they travel to North Alabama. Friday's match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
