Men's Tennis Opens the HEB Invite with win over UTRGV

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Troy men's tennis teamed opened up play at the HEB Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas in the best way possible. Troy defeated UT Rio Grande Valley (3-4) by a score of 6-1 on Friday. The win improved Troy's record to 9-1 on the year.
Troy kicked off the invitational with a hard-fought victory in doubles. The Trojans earned wins on both courts one and two on Friday with the duo of Christopher Tasker and Nicolas Simkin as well as the pair of Carles Anton and Pelayo Antuna earning 6-4 victories.
With Troy leading 1-0 heading into singles, UTRGV was able to knot everything up at 1 apiece after earning the win on court after a retirement by Antuna. Troy quickly found themselves with the lead once again after Simkin earned a quick 6-0, 6-2 win on court five. The Trojans third point came on court three by Amer Bedwan while the match was clinched on court six by senior Tasker. Troy and UTRGV played the final two matches, both of which were Troy wins.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday for the final day of the invitational. On Saturday Troy will battle New Mexico State ( 1-5) who will be playing in its first match of the invitational.
