Men's Tennis Earns Second-Straight Shutout Victory

MACON, Ga. – For the second-straight time in as many matches, the Troy men's tennis team earned shutout victory over its opponents. The Trojans earned a 7-0 road victory over Mercer on Tuesday to improve to 8-1 on the young season.
Troy's stellar afternoon got start in doubles where the Trojans went with the same lineup for the second consecutive match. Nicolas Simkin and Christopher Tasker got the ball rolling with a quick 6-1 victory on court one followed by a 6-3 win on court three. After falling on court three, the duo of Pelayo Antuna and Carles Anton earned a 6-4 win on court two to secure the all-important doubles point for Troy.
In singles play, Llinares earned the Trojans second point of the afternoon with his 6-1, 6-2 win on court four followed by Anton earning a 6-2, 6-1 decision on court two for the third point of the day. With his win, Anton improves to 7-0 on the season and 5-0 on court two. The match was clinched for Troy on five by Simkin. The freshman from Argentina earned the fourth and deciding point with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
With the win in hand, Troy and Mercer decided to play all the remaining matches out allowing Tasker to pick up the win on court six, followed by wins on court one by Antuna and Bedwan on court three. This was Troy's fifth shutout victory of the season, matching the most Troy has had in any season since at least 2010.
