TROY, Ala. – Troy Softball head coach Beth Mullins announced the additions of Olivia Cato and Kayden Dunn from the class of 2022 Wednesday.
Â
The Trojans added an infielder and a pitcher both ranked inside the Extra Innings Softball Top 20 in their respective positions.
Â
Olivia Cato
Cato comes to Troy out of Northgate High School, where she earned 2019 Region Pitcher of the Year honors. The Palmetto, Ga. native is a three-time all-region and all-state selection. In her storied career, Cato notched 661 strikeouts, including 222 in a single season (2019). She has helped lead the squad to a final four, elite eight and sweet 16 playoff appearance.
Â
Cato recorded a perfect game in the 2020 sweet 16 playoff game and posted a career-high 17 strikeouts against Jones County in 2021. Extra Innings Softball ranks Cato as the 43rd best overall prospect and 18th best pitcher in the class of 2022.
Â
The pitcher also helped lead her EC Bullets Mayfield 16 U travel ball squad to a 2020 Triple Crown national title.
Â
"We are beyond excited to make it official with Olivia," head coach Beth Mullins said. "She is going to make a huge impact on our pitching staff and our program as a whole."
Â
Kayden Dunn
Dunn joins the Trojans, and former high school teammate Leanna Johnson, out of Brantley High School, where she shattered Brantley's single-season home run record after smashing 21 long balls. The infielder was named the 2021 1A Hitter of the Year and the 2021 1A Player of the Year.
Â
During her junior campaign, the Brantley, Ala. native batted at a .500 clip with a stellar .955 fielding percentage. So far, the best mark of her career came during her sophomore season, where she batted a .640 with a .983 fielding percentage.
Â
Dunn has also been tabbed a two-time all-tournament selection and a member of the 2021 all-state squad. She was ranked 17th nationally among first basemen by Extra Innings Softball.
Â
"I am really excited to welcome Kayden to the family," Mullins said. "She is going to bring a big bat to the lineup and help us continue to raise the standard here at Troy."
