TROY, Ala. – Troy's Brooks Buce has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week; the league office announced Monday afternoon. Buce booted a pair of field goals, including the game-winner with less than two minutes to play, in Troy's win over Georgia Southern.
Buce, a junior from Johns Creek, Ga., put Troy on the board with a 29-yard field on the Trojans' opening drive of the game and then capped the scoring with a 24-yard field goal with 1:46 to play to push Troy in front, 27-24. He was also perfect on his three extra-point attempts in the game.
He booted three of his six kickoffs through the end zone for touchbacks, and his kicks helped limit the Eagles to just 23.3 yards per return on the other three kicks.
Buce is 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts this season, and his make at ULM two weeks ago was his first attempt since his senior year in high school, 1,751 days prior.
Troy hits the road again this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference matchup at Texas State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
