Solid Day Three Propels Troy at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Powered by six wins on Sunday, the Troy Women's Tennis squad finished this weekend's three-day Samford Invitational.
After picking up three wins through the opening two days, the Trojans tripled their weekend win total after falling in just one match Sunday.
Troy opened up action on Friday with a pair of doubles matchups. Olivia Elliott and Michelle Ncube picked up the win over host Samford's Ally Hayduk and Samantha Maras, 6-1.
In singles Friday, Ncube picked up Troy's lone win over UAB's Annalisa Smith, 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
Saturday also kick-started with doubles play; however, it was Ncube again that earned Troy's lone win of the day. Ncube defeated Samford's Hayduk, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.
The Trojans caught momentum quickly Sunday with a pair of doubles win by Elliott/Ncube, 6-3, and Andrea Widing and Anastasiia Khoklova, 6-4.
Troy's success continued into its singles matchups, where the squad earned four wins.
Khokhlova defeated Western Kentucky's Rachel Hermanova, 7-6, 6-2, while Kukaras downed Taylor Shaw, 6-0, 6-1, marking the pair's first singles wins of the weekend.
Ncube picked up her third singles win of the weekend over Memphis' Meredith Jones, 6-1, 6-3.
Widing rounded out the Trojans with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Western Kentucky's Alexis Cramer.
Next Up
The Trojans will head to Tuscaloosa on Thursday to kickstart the ITA Southern Regional. Play will finish on Sunday.
