BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy got off to a strong start in Tuesday's opening two rounds of the Graeme McDowell Invitational at Greystone Golf and Country Club, but a shaky final 12 holes pushed the Trojans into eighth place.
True freshman George Burch led the Trojans and is tied for 18th place overall at 1-over par. Burch opened the season with a 2-under par 70 thanks to a strong round that featured four birdies. He added four more birdies in the second round en route to shooting 3-over.
Will McFadden is tied for 33rd place at 5-over after a bounce-back second round which featured three birdies and an eagle as he shot even par following a 77 in the first round. Ryan Morrison and Reagan Harrell are tied for 44th place at 8-over. Brent Hamm came out blazing with six birdies in the morning session to shoot 2-under but pair of big numbers on the back nine in the second round pushed his card to 12-over; he is tied for 51st place. Bryson Bianco rounded out the field for Troy in a tie for 55th place.
Troy was 4-under as a team through the opening six holes of Tuesday's second round before finishing the round at 12-over. Georgia Southern leads the 10-team field at 10-under par through 36 holes while UAB and Coastal Carolina round out the top three.
Teams wrap up the tournament Wednesday with the final 18 holes.
