TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's golf team opens its 2020 fall campaign this week at the Graeme McDowell Invitational hosted by UAB at the Greystone Golf & Country Club. Teams will play 36 holes Tuesday and close out the tournament with 18 holes Wednesday.
"We're all very excited to get the season underway," head coach Bart Barnes said. "This is a great opportunity for us, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped get us to this point. We've got a couple of new faces in the lineup who I'm excited to see and our returning guys are coming off some great summers."
Will McFadden leads a trio of returning Trojans who saw significate action last season. McFadden finished the shortened season with a 73.70 stroke average with seven rounds under par. He set a Troy school record with a 7-under 64 in the opening round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, one of two rounds in the 60s for McFadden.
Brent Hamm was close behind with a 74.55 average in 20 rounds last season with five rounds under par with a low round of 66, while Ryan Morrison also played in 20 rounds and closed out the year with a 75.25 average.
"We've got a really competitive bunch," Barnes said. "We are still trying to figure out the overall makeup of our team, but we are much deeper from top to bottom than we were last year. We'll have even production throughout the lineup and won't be relying on any one person so much."
Teams will be able to play six individuals in the event with the four-best scores each round counting instead of the traditional five-man teams. Bryson Bianco, who played 11 rounds last year, will be joined by newcomers George Burch and Reagan Harrell in the lineup. Harrell is a graduate transfer from Auburn while Burch helped lead McGill-Toolen High School to an Alabama 7A runner-up finish as a junior.
"This tournament is going to be a great gauge against some really good competition," Barnes said. "We'll be playing against three teams in our league and some of the top mid-major programs; it's going to be a really good measuring stick on a good golf course."
