HOOVER, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team is in seventh place following Monday's opening two rounds of the Hoover Invitational at the Hoover Country Club. The leaderboard is bunched up as Troy finds itself just seven shots back of third place heading into Tuesday's final round.
Nicole Lorup, Troy's all-time stroke average leader, paced the Trojans over Monday's two rounds with a pair of matching rounds of 1-over 73; she is tied for seventh place. She combined for seven birdies on the day and is just three shots back of the leader.
Western Kentucky shot 6-over on the day and holds a 5-shot lead over Indianapolis atop the team standings. Southern Illinois is in third place at 16-over while Troy sits in seventh place at 23-over par.
Judith Castro and Troy newcomer Courtney Vogel are tied for 26th place at 8-over par. Vogel shot a 2-over 74 in the opening round with a birdie and an eagle on the par-5 ninth before shooting 6-over with three birdies on her second trip through the course; Vogel led the field shooting 6-under on the par-5 holes. Castro had a pair of birdies in each round with a 75 in the morning and 77 in the afternoon.
Elisabeth Presus shot 10-over on the day to sit tied for 35th place while ShaeLee Scarberry is tied for 44th at 12-over. Troy had three players competing as individuals on the course Monday; Anna Claire Little is tied for 44th, Brooklyn Bostick is in 58th place and Elizabeth Caldarelli is in 63rd.
