TROY, Ala. – Troy Softball has gained some national recognition after being listed as one of Softball America's five mid-major programs to watch in 2021 on Tuesday.
Â
"It is always great to have Troy Softball acknowledged by the softball community," head coach Beth Mullins said. "I'm proud of our players and the program, and I can't wait to get back out there with team 28 to continue moving forward."
Â
In 2019, Troy recorded a program-best 19 conference wins and was picked to finish second in the 2020 Sun Belt Preseason Poll. The Trojans opened up the season 15-6 highlighted by a two-hit victory over No. 16 South Carolina.
Â
The Trojans' offense will be ready to build upon its strong 2020 numbers in the upcoming season as it returns its top four hitters in Katie Webb, Kelly Horne, Katie Lively and Jade Sinness. The four accounted for 64% of the team's hits, 61% of their home runs and 54% of their RBI.
Â
Leanna Johnson returns to the circle after ending the season ranked first nationally in shutouts with seven. The sophomore also ranked sixth nationally in victories (6), sixth in strikeouts (137) and ninth in saves (3).
