TROY, Ala. – Troy University's women's golf and softball programs received Public Recognition Awards as part of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) program for the 2018-19 academic year; both programs ranked among the top 10 percent of their sport.
Both programs recorded perfect 1,000 APR scores for the reporting period, it marks the sixth-straight year that the women's golf program has earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award.
"The number one goal for each of our amazing student-athletes is that they leave Troy with a degree in their hands," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "We are extremely proud of both our women's golf and softball programs for ranking in the top 10 percent in the country among their peer programs. The work that our student-athletes across all sports put in both on the field and in the classroom is extraordinary, and we are proud to call them all Trojans."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 19. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
