Trojans Fall To Louisiana to Close Cox Diamond Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Troy dropped the final game of the 2020 Cox Diamond Invitational Sunday afternoon to Louisiana, 8-4. The Trojans out hit the Ragin' Cajuns, 9-8, but were once again plagued by errors.

Dalton Sinquefield went 3-4 at the plate and recorded his second-straight three-hit game, the eighth of his career. William Sullivan went 2-3 and recorded his sixth multi-hit game this season. Max Newton pitched 4.2 innings in relief and struck out two while Ryan Fultz struck out two of the four batters he faced.

Louisiana (7-9) struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but Troy (9-7) responded in the bottom of the second when Kyle Mock and Jesse Hall each drove in a run.

The Ragin' Cajuns took advantage of Troy's errors with a five-spot in the third and two more runs in the fourth to break open the game, 8-2. The Trojans didn't go away as they put up two runs in the sixth on RBIs from Sinquefield and Easton Kirk.

Four runs would be as close as Troy was able to get as the Trojans weren't able to get anything going offensively for the rest of the game. Will Moriarty was the pitcher of record for Louisiana while Tyson Ellis was tagged with the loss for the Trojans.

With Drew Frederic's single in the first inning, he became the second Trojan this season to reach base in six straight plate appearances.
Troy now has 44 doubles this season. The Trojans led the nation in doubles entering the weekend.
Dalton Sinquefield is 6-8 with a home run and a double in the last two games. He now has 27 extra-base hits in his career.

Troy heads to Montgomery for a final tune-up before its first Sun Belt series next weekend. The Trojans will square off against Southern Miss Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium.
