GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Troy dropped the third and final game of a hard-fought series 7-1 to the No. 1 Florida Gators Sunday afternoon at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium. After having hot-hitting bats in the first two games of the series, the Trojans struggled to get into a groove offensively.
Lake City, Fla., native Tyson Ellis made his first career start on the mound for the Trojans. Austin Garofalo continued his impressive weekend at the plate with a hit and a sac fly to score Troy's lone run. Freshman Matt Snell pitched 2.0 innings and registered a hit in his first career at-bat.
For the first time all series, Florida (11-0) struck first with a run in the first and third innings. Troy pulled within one in the top of the fourth with Garofalo's sac fly to score Caleb Bartolero from third.
The Trojans (8-4) remained within striking distance before Jud Fabian added three insurance runs with a home run to left field. Hunter Barco earned the win for Florida while Ellis was tagged with the loss.
Quotable – Head Coach Mark Smartt
"My takeaway is that we have a good ball club. We've got to get back to work and understand how to win games. We have play better, pitch better, defend better; we're very capable and we have to get things lined back up for Tuesday."
