Trojans Claim Four Event Crowns at Camel City Invite

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Troy took home four event crowns and 10 top-three finishes Friday and Saturday at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"We started showing signs of life this week," director Marc Davis said. "I always look to this meet a turning point in the season. It's the meet where we start to round into a good competitive place before the conference meet."

Individually, the Trojans saw first-place finishes from Jaleel Gilbert in the men's 200m and Tanner Guest in the 1000m with times of 22.15 and 2:54.43 seconds, respectively. The Troy women's 4000m distance medley relay and 4x400m relays also secured top for the Trojans.

Troy secured two of the top three spots in the men's weight throw with a second-place throw from Michael Alvernaz (19.92m) and a third-place toss by Caleb Brown (19.15m).

Three Trojans finished in the top 10 of the women's 400m. Madison Kennedy, Precious Ogba and Edita Sklenska placed second, fourth and sixth, respectively. Sprinters Jasmine Riley (24.97) and Precious Ogba (25.07) placed second and third, respectively, in the women's 60m. Riley also had a third-place finish in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.67 seconds.

Hakim Montgomery posted a time of 6.77 in the men's 60m dash, good for a runner-up finish in the event. Casimir Tawiah secured yet another podium finish for the Trojans in the 60m hurdles, coming in third with a time of 8.06 seconds.

Troy closed out Saturday with strong performances from its men's and women's 4x400 relays. The women finished first (3:50.21) while the men finished second (3:20.91).

The Trojans return to action Monday, Feb. 24 for the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
