Women’s Golf Finishes Tied for 11th in Spring Opener

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Despite a strong performance from Nicole Lorup, the Troy women's golf finished in a tie for 11th place in its spring opener at the Amelia Island Collegiate which concluded Tuesday at the Amelia National Golf Club.
Lorup finished in a three-way tie for third place at 3-under par over the 54 holes; she finished just two shots off her third individual title of the year. Lorup now has four top 10 and six top 25 finishes in Troy's six tournaments this season.
She quickly ran her card to 2-under in Tuesday's final round with birdies on two of her first four holes. A double-bogey and bogey around a birdie put her 1-over before a birdie on No. 4 settled her card at even for the day.
Troy fell four spots on the team leaderboard on Tuesday after shooting 12-over as a team. Florida Gulf Coast led from wire to wire to win the team title by one shot over North Florida.
ShaeLee Scarberry climbed 10 spots up the individual leaderboard into a tie for 42nd place after shooting even par Tuesday with a round that featured four birdies. Elisabeth Preus and Anna Claire Little Tied for 56th place after both shot a 6-over 78 in the final round. Judith Castro rounded out the field for the Trojans in a tie for 72nd place after also carding a 78 Tuesday.
Troy is back in action Feb. 24-25 at the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
