STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Troy women's basketball team fell Monday night at the hands of the 12th ranked Bulldogs of Mississippi State, 103-76. Senior Alexus Dye was phenomenal, recording her team-best fourth double-double of the season.
Dye showed once again why she was a Preseason First Team All-Sun Belt selection as she gave Mississippi State fits all night long. The senior from Birmingham posted a team-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting while also grabbing 11 rebounds. This Dye's fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of her career as well as the 23rd time in her career that she has scored in double-figures.
Joining Dye in double-figures was Tyasia Moore who scored 14 points and added seven rebounds. Dominique Camp scored nine straight points in the fourth-quarter while Jasmine Robinson scored eight points and dished out two assists. Emely Rosario and Tiyah Johnson each scored six..
Troy shot 34 percent from the field for the game on 28-of-81 shooting while shooting 88 percent from the charity stripe on 15-of-17 shooting. Troy outrebounded Mississippi State 51 to 41 while also recording a game-high 27 fast break points.
Troy fell behind MSU early after the Bulldogs scored the first 10-points of the night. The Trojans were able to go on a little 6-2 run of their own that forced the Bulldogs into burning a timeout but it wasn't until the second-half that the Trojans started to look comfortable.
Troy opened the third-quarter scoring the first four points and eight of the first 10 before ending the quarter on an 15-6 run, highlighted by seven points from Tyasia Moore. Troy outscored Mississippi State 26-18 in the third-quarter. After scoring just 14-points in the first-quarter, the Trojans were able to score 62 points over the final three quarters.
Mississippi State was shot 53 percent for the game (41-76) and 48 percent from behind-the-arc. The Bulldogs were led by Rickea Jackson who scored 30 and Sidney Cooks who scored 26.
Records
Troy: 3-2
Mississippi State: 3-1
Quoting Coach Rigby
"Mississippi State hit an incredibly amount of three-pointers in the first-half and our goal was to not give them the paint because they have players over 6-4. They are great in the paint and a great dribble-drive team. We made an adjustment towards the end of the second-quarter and our players did great as far as being all the way out to stop the three but still stopping the dribble drive. And then our post players did great pushing their post players out of the paint so they couldn't score. Really we've improved more than I thought on defense and when we played our defense we played much better."
