Women's Golf Fifth After Day One of Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. – Troy carded a field-best 26 birdies on Monday's opening day of the Mercer Invitational, and the Trojans find themselves in fifth place following 36 holes of play. Nicole Lorup paced the Trojans individually as she is tied for eighth place.
Lorup finished the day with eight birdies – second best in the field of 53 golfers – en route to a 6-over 150 on the day; scores were high across the board with the average round on Monday settling at 77.76 on the par-72 course.
She carded five birdies during the opening round including three of her final five holes to move from 2-over to an even card. The Trojan sophomore added three more birdies in the second round, but struggled with some larger numbers to shoot 6-over for the round.
Anna Claire Little and Elisabeth Preus are tied for 17th place at 8-over par. Little finished the day with fifth total birdies as she shot matching 4-over 76s in each of Monday's two rounds. Preus also finished with five birdies on the day thanks to a 2-over 74 in the opening round and a 6-over 78 in the afternoon session.
Western Kentucky and Chattanooga are tied for the team lead two shots ahead of third-place Mercer; Troy is 15 shots off the pace in fifth.
ShaeLee Scarberry is tied for 33rd place overall at 12-over par after shooting rounds of 76 and 80 with six overall birdies, while Courtney Vogel sits in 51st place at 25-over par.
Troy will be in the first wave on the golf course for Tuesday's final round, and the Trojans will be paired with East Tennessee State and BYU; the first threesome hits the course at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
