TROY, Ala. – Troy ventures to Foley, Ala. for its fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference volleyball tournament appearance this week. The Trojans will open the tournament against Georgia Southern Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. before concluding pool play against UT Arlington Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The Trojans head to the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Division after tallying a 10-6 record in 2020. The second-place finish ties for the highest conference finish since Troy joined the Sun Belt in 2005.
"I'm excited for this new tournament format," head coach Josh Lauer said. "I think it rewards the teams who played well during the regular season. I think we're in one of the more competitive groups, there are three good teams in Pool B. Georgia Southern obviously played well against us last week and UTA is coming off a really good stretch where they just upset Texas State, so we will have to be ready to play, no doubt about it."

Sun Belt volleyball squads will face a new path to a title in a new tournament format that includes all 12 teams competing in pool play leading into a four-team, knockout-round bracket in a five-day format that will take place in Foley, Ala.
Pool winners will advance to the semifinals Saturday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. before the tournament concludes with the championship match Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
Troy is 4-8 all-time and 2-3 under coach Josh Lauer at the Sun Belt Conference tournament with its most recent win coming last season in five sets over Arkansas State. Troy has now qualified for the conference tournament in all four years under Lauer which is the longest streak in the school's Sun Belt history.
As always, the Trojans will look to play with good offensive tempo and win the serve and pass battle. Troy currently ranks second nationally with 101 service aces this season. Amara Anderson (12th), Natalie Hummel (T-15th) and Lacey Jeffcoat (T-15th) all rank inside the top 25 nationally in service aces this season.
The Trojans will look to Anderson to lead the charge offensively at the setter position. The junior has proven to be one of the best setters in the nation this season, ranking third nationally in assists with 637 on the year.
Troy will need to get its middles, outside hitters and right-side hitters all clicking at the same time in order to advance out of a competitive Pool B. Julia Brooks (144), Cheyenne Hayes (142) and Halston Hillier (125) lead the Trojans in kills this season.
Jeffcoat has had the best season of her career defensively for Troy. The junior libero is just one of eight players in the country to reach 300 digs this season. Jeffcoat reached the milestone in just 16 matches which is the fastest she has reached 300 digs in her career.
