Troy Soccer Draws Opening Round Matchup Against Texas State

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans soccer program will open the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Monday night against Texas State at the Foley Sports and Tourism Complex the Sun Belt Conference announced Friday.

The winner from Monday's 6:30 p.m. matchup between the Trojans and Bobcats will advance to Wednesday's second round where the Panthers of Georgia State await.
Â
The 2020 tournament marks the second time in the last three seasons that Texas State and Troy have met in the first round of the postseason.

SUN BELT CONFERENCE REGULATIONS:Â
• All spectators must wear face coverings at all times while inside the facility.
• Spectators are encouraged to be socially distant and spread out within the venue where possible.
• Fans will not have access to the team prior to or after the games.
• Fans will not have access to the field during the championship ceremony. The conference office will set up designated viewing areas for the ceremony.
• Spectators will be encouraged to spread out along the grass areas as well as in the bleachers.
• Foley will mark bleachers for seating and non-seating areas to comply with social distancing requirements.
• Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs to allow for seating along the perimeter of the field.

BRING ON THE BOBCATS:
The Trojans 2020 postseason journey begins Monday night against the Texas State Bobcats. Monday's match up will be the first match up between Troy and Texas State since Troy beat Texas State, 1-0, last October in San Marcos. Troy and Texas State are meeting in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the second time in three years.

YOUTH MOVEMENT:
The 2020 Trojans roster features just one senior (Eleonore Freby). The Trojans and head coach Ged O'Connor welcomed 14 newcomers to Troy this season. Back on Sept. 20 at South Alabama, five Trojans (Anderson, Babineaux, Bloomfield, LaRoche and Tessier) earned the start. In total, 10 of the Trojans 14 true freshmen have seen action.Â

SETTING IT UP:
The Trojans have scored 15 times off set pieces (corner kicks, free kicks and penalty kicks) in their last 25 games. Four of the seven Troy goals this season have been scored off set piece opportunities.

FRESH IMPACT:Â
Four of Troy's seven goals this season have been scored by a true freshman. Iceland native Regielly Halldorsdottir is currently tied for the team lead in goals with two. Halldorsdottir scored in back-to-back contests against Georgia Southern (Oct. 4) and South Alabama (Oct. 11).

WITH A VICTORY:
With a victory, Troy would record its first victory in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament since 2015 when the Trojans dropped Georgia Southern, 3-0. If the Trojans are victorious, they would face the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday night (6:30 p.m.).

Texas State enters Monday's matchup with a record of 4-8-1 and 4-4 in the Sun Belt. The Bobcats defeated ULM, Louisiana and Little Rock this season. So far this season, Texas State has scored 14 goals through the first 13 games. Sydney Kammer leads the way for the Bobcats having scored three goals. In total, 10 different Bobcats have scored this season. Kiara Gonzales is tied for the team lead in points (6), having added a pair of goals and two assists.
