STATESBORO, Ga. --Â After falling behind by a pair of goals, the Troy soccer program mounted a furious second-half comeback, before ultimately falling 3-1 to Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.
Â
After the Eagles scored just five minutes into the match, the Trojans (1-8-1, 1-8-1 Sun Belt Conference) found the equalizer 15 minutes later when Mia Tessier took a flick from Erin Bloomfield and knifed through the Georgia Southern (3-8-1, 3-5-1 Sun Belt Conference) defense. The freshman then calmly beat Sara Story with a left-footed shot.
Â
With the score even at one, Georgia Southern quickly regained the lead when Marcela Montoya's shot deflected off a Trojan and past goalie Gaby Cossette. In her first action of the season, Cossette made four saves.
Following the halftime break, Georgia Southern extended its lead to 3-1 when Cossette's service from 25 yards out deflected off Deborah Ruiz' back and into the unoccupied net.
Â
Down the stretch, the Trojans had a couple of good chances, including an 82nd-minute strike from Eubanks that was called offsides but could not draw any closer.
Â
Troy will learn its first-round fate later this week for next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
