ATLANTA -- The Troy soccer team fell 1-0 to Georgia State Friday night at Center Parc Stadium.
Â
The difference in the match was an 85th-minute goal from Maggie Hanusek that just eluded the Trojan defense.
In defeat, goalie Lindsey LaRoche recorded nine saves for Troy (1-7-1, 1-7-1 Sun Belt), while Taytum Terrell, Mia Tessier and Eleonore Freby each recorded a shot.
Â
The Trojans recorded the first shot of the match Friday night, when Freby's open attempt from point-blank range in the 10th-minute missed the Georgia State (8-1-2, 6-1-2 Sun Belt) net.
Â
Freby's chance was the Trojans lone shot of the first half.
Â
Following the halftime break, Troy again recorded the first shot of the half, when Tessier's 50th-minute attempt also fell high.
Â
With neither team finding much in the way of scoring opportunities, Troy had its best scoring chance in the 78th-minute when Terrell's header off the second of three consecutive corner kicks was just punched high by Georgia State's Jaddah Foos.
Â
After a pair of Panthers attempted missed the frame, Georgia State finally found the back of the net when Hanusek took a pass from Jolie Ryff and beat the Trojan back line with a shot into the left-hand side of the next.
Â
With the victory, Georgia State extended its unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches.
Â
Troy closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon at Georgia Southern. Kickoff from Statesboro is set for Noon Central.
Â
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
• LaRoche's nine saves are one off her career-high of 10 set back on Oct. 2 against Georgia State.
• Five of Troy's seven losses this season are by one goal.
• The Trojans have allowed two game-winning and one game-tying goal in the final five minutes of regulation.
• Troy was shutout for the fourth time this season.
Â
GED TALKS:
"Tonight was a tough result, but our girls worked hard against a very talented Georgia State team. We played well in stretches, but we didn't play consistent enough to beat a really good team on the road. We need to continue to work on becoming more consistent. Now we need to turn the page to a matchup against a tough Georgia Southern team."
