LoPresti Notches Career High as Troy Falls to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore Jessica LoPresti posted a career-high seven kills as Troy fell to Coastal Carolina 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) in the series opener Thursday morning at the HTC Center. The Trojans (4-2, 4-2 Sun Belt) were unable to get in a rhythm offensively as the Chanticleers (7-0, 7-0 Sun Belt) held Troy to .058 hitting on the match.
LoPresti's career-best seven kills came on .400 hitting, while Alison Siersma tied her career high of eight kills for the second time this season. Halston Hillier and Julia Brooks added seven and five kills, respectively, and Tabitha Wheeler notched three kills in her Trojan debut.
Lacey Jeffcoat impressed once again on the defensive side with 20 digs, moving her into 10th place on Troy's all-time digs list. Amara Anderson registered seven digs to go along with her 23 assists.
Coastal Carolina hit .347 on the match as Anett Nemeth led the Chanticleers with an 18-kill outing. The Chanticleers were the more physical team at the net, out blocking the Trojans, 13-4.
Set One
Coastal Carolina scored the first two points of the match before Troy rattled off three-straight points to take a 3-2 lead. The Trojans were eventually able to open a 16-11 lead on the Chanticleers before Coastal Carolina went on a 7-1 run to step in front at 18-17. The Trojans would fail to capitalize on their early five-point lead in the set as Nemeth posted seven kills in the first set to complete the comeback, 25-21, in favor of the Chanticleers. Brooks and Hillier led the way for Troy offensively with three kills apiece as six different Trojans recorded a kill in the opening set.
Set Two
The Chanticleers opened the second set with their foot on the gas as they quickly took a six-point advantage at 9-3 to force a Troy timeout. Troy managed to pull within two at 10-8, aided by a kill and an ace from Brooks, and two kills from LoPresti, out of the timeout. Coastal Carolina halted the Troy run with a 7-2 run of its own to force the final Trojan timeout of the set at 17-10. The Trojans would fall 25-16 after allowing the Chanticleers to hit .469 in set two.

A kill from Wheeler early in the third set gave Troy a 3-2 advantage, and things remained within reach for the Trojans until Coastal Carolina used a 3-0 to open a 14-9 lead. The Chanticleers extended their lead to eight at 21-13 to prompt a Trojan timeout. Troy would be unable to extend the match to a fourth set as the Trojans fell 25-16 in the final set.
