Women’s Golf Tied for Third at Callaway Gardens Invite

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Courtney Vogel carded a field-best seven birdies in Monday's opening round of the Callaway Gardens Invite on the Lake View Course at Callaway Gardens. Troy is tied for third place in the 10-team field.

Vogel and Elisabeth Preus are tied for sixth place after shooting a 1-over 72 in the first of three rounds in the event. Vogel was sitting 3-under following 14 holes after making the turn at 2-under and sinking three more birdies on the back nine. However; a pair of big numbers – a double and a triple – pushed her a stroke over par. Preus had a less eventful day with a pair of birdies and three bogeys for her 1-over.

Troy did the majority of its work on the par 3 holes playing the four par 3s on the course to a 2-over as a team – four shots better than anyone else in the field. The Trojans trail Middle Tennessee by just three shots for the team lead with 36 holes to play.

ShaeLee Scarberry shot 2-over on the day after she finished the round with a pair of birdies as she sits in a tie for 12^thplace. Elizabeth Caldarelli fired the best round of her Troy career with a 74 thanks to a trio of birdies to sit in a tie for 19^thplace. Nicole Lorup shot 4-over and is tied for 26^th while Anna Claire Little is tied for 48^th place at 7-over.

Teams continue play with 18 holes Tuesday.
