Complete Effort Powers Troy to Decisive Victory Over Texas State

TROY, Ala. -- Behind a complete effort on both sides of the ball, Troy defeated Texas State, 37-17, Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

In the victory, four different Trojans (2-1, 1-0 Sun Belt) recorded a touchdown, led by senior Reggie Todd who recorded a pair of touchdowns and Kaylon Geiger, who surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards with his seven-catch 121-yard output.

On the ground, freshman Kimani Vidal led the way rushing for 106-yards while BJ Smith rushed for his 18th-career touchdown in the third quarter.

Sophomore Gunnar Watson set a pair of career-highs completing 33-of-46 passes for a career-best 338 yards and four touchdowns. With his four strikes, Watson turned his first-career four touchdown performance and the third four-touchdown performance of the Chip Lindsey era (15 games).

In the victory, the Trojans featured a 300-yard passer (Watson), a 100-yard rusher (Vidal) and a 100-yard receiver (Geiger) in the same contest for the first-time since 2019 (Nov. 9, Georgia Southern).

On the defensive side of the ball, the Trojans allowed just 254 total yards of offense, the second sub-300-yard performance of the season. The Troy defense held the potent Texas State (1-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) offense to just 15 total first downs for the game and three first half points.

The Trojans returns to action next Saturday afternoon against Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff between the Colonels and Trojans is set for 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
