Â
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Despite going on a 17-0 run in the first half, the Troy Trojans men's basketball team fell 86-57 Thursday night at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Â
In defeat, junior Ty Gordon and Darian Adams added 14 and 12 respectively for the Trojans (8-15, 4-8 Sun Belt Conference) who shot just 34.9 (22-of-63) percent from the field. Nick Stampley continued his strong play as of late, scoring 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. The junior forward grabbed eight rebounds.
Â
After leading Georgia Southern (13-9, 7-4 Sun Belt Conference) 21-11 with 10:17 remaining in the first half, Troy was outscored 31-4 the rest of half, as the Eagles took a 41-25 advantage into the break.
Â
A mini 9-4 run from Adams and the Trojans cut the Georgia Southern lead to 12 points (46-34) with 17:14 remaining, but the Eagles quickly used a 25-9 run to take a 71-43 lead with 8:51 remaining.
Â
Down the stretch the Trojans continued to battle but Eagles lead proved to be too much for Troy to overcome.
Â
Four different Georgia Southern players scored at least 10 points led by Quan Jackson (21 points) and Isaiah Crawley (18 points, 10 rebounds), as the homeside shot 31-of-60 for the game, and 57.1 percent (16-of-28) in the second half.Â
Â
The Trojans return to action Saturday afternoon at Georgia State. Tip-off from Atlanta is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. Â

HEAD COACH SCOTT CROSS:
"Tonight was disappointing. We started out pretty well and hit some shots early. Our defense was good over the first 10 minutes of the game, which allowed us to go on that 17-0 run. We were making it difficult on them, and because we hit shots our defense was really strong. And then they answered with that run that proved to be the difference. We were missing layups and couldn't find a bucket which caused our defense to suffer. We talk about not allowing our offense to dictate our defense, unfortunately we haven't been able to fully accomplish that. Being short-handed right now we don't have a ton of options scoring the basketball. We just have to find a way to bounce back and play better against Georgia State on Saturday."
