TROY, Ala. – Katie Webb was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team while the Trojans were picked to finish second, the league announced on Wednesday.
Â
After a record-breaking season a year ago, the Trojans were picked to finish second in the league for the first time since 2010. Troy was picked behind Louisiana trailing by 15 points.
Â
"I am just really excited to take the field with this team on February 7th," head coach Beth Mullins said. "Being selected to finish second is great, but we are really just trying to take this season one pitch at a time and one game at a time. When you do that, you don't get caught up in rankings or get distracted from your goals."
Â
Troy set a new program record in conference wins with 19 and finished in second place during the regular season last year. The Trojans also the record for consecutive wins with 14.
Â
Webb adds another all-conference selection to her resume after being named to the First Team All-Sun Belt Conference squad last season. The senior was the only Trojan to start all 57 games last season. Webb led the team in batting average with a .355 mark and in multi-hit games with 19.
Â
"I am really excited for Katie, especially for it to be her senior year," Mullins said. "She has been so consistent throughout her career here at Troy, and I think this honor reflects that."
Â
The Salem, Ala., native was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on May 6 after turning in two stellar performances against South Alabama going 5-for-6 with four RBIs and four doubles.
Â
Troy opens the 2020 season at home on Friday, February 7th. The Trojans will take on Lipscomb at 3 p.m. and College of Charleston at 5:30 p.m.
