Notes: Women's Basketball Closes Out Weekend Road Trip at Georgia State

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball will close out its road trip through Georgia in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Panthers of Georgia State. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT).

Troy Trojans (13-3, 4-1 SBC)

The Trojans earned a tough victory on Thursday against Georgia Southern thanks to a strong second-quarter that saw Troy hold the Eagles scoreless for nine minutes all while going on a 22-0 run during the same stretch. In the quarter they allowed a grand total of three points, all from free throws. Japonica James has been playing some of her best basketball of the season over the last four games, averaging 14.3 point per game and five rebounds. In each of the last two games she has posted 20 points and 19 points respectively.

Georgia State enters Saturday with a 4-12 overall record and a 1-4 record inside the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers have lost three straight games. On Thursday GSU lost to South Alabama 81-64. After scoring 19 points against South in the first quarter they were held to just five points in the second quarter. Taylor Hosendove finished with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and two steals. It was her team-best sixth double-double of the season. Shaq Miller-McCray moved into third place on GSU's all-time blocks list with three more blocks Thursday. Miller-McCray sits and 138 career rejections after passing Chan Harris (2008-12) who posted 137 blocks. Miller-McCray now has 20 blocks for the Panthers in her last five games. The Panthers were short-handed on Thursday with Jada Lewis, Allison Johnson, and Ashley Foster all out due to injury. Freshman Kennedy Powell made her first career start and scored a career-high six points with a pair of 3-pointers.

• Jasmine Robinson has been the most improved Trojan in terms of scoring from last season to this season. Robinson is scoring 13.7 points per game this season after scoring just 6.5 a year ago. The 7.2-point improvement is the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference among the leagues top 15 scorers. She ranks 7th in the SBC in scoring this season
• Troy leads the country in free throw attempts (412), offensive rebounds (23.2), Rebounds (819)
• The Trojans have won four straight road games. Their last road loss came at Duke back on Nov. 24. On the road we are 5-2 this season
• Since the 2015-16 season Troy is 22-7 following a loss
• Troy's 9-game winning streak was the longest winning streak this season by any Sun Belt team. The next closest was Coastal Carolina who had a 6-game win streak going before they lost at Troy to open the SBC season
