Trojans Crown Two Individual Champions at Vulcan Invite

FULL RESULTS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's track and field programs opened the 2020 season with a successful outing at the UAB Vulcan Invitational Saturday in Birmingham. The Trojans crowned two individual champions at the Birmingham CorssPlex in Michael Alvernaz and Macki Walsh.
Alvernaz took home the top mark in the men's weight throw with a toss of 20.49m. On the women's side, Walsh took the 3000m crown with a time of 10:05.10.
Troy's most successful event of the day came in the women's 800m where four Trojans placed inside the top 10. Tanner Guest (2nd), Alexandria Rankn (4th), Katie Smith (6th) and Sydney Singletary (10th) all had impressive outings in the event. Guest secured her second top-three finish of the day after placing thrif in the mile with a time of 5:06.94.
Jasmine Riley and Hakim Montgomery each had solid outings in the 60m dash placing second and third, respectively. In the 60m hurdles, Alexis Garett placed fourth with a time of 8.79 seconds. Precious Ogba notched another top five finish for the Trojans in the 400m with a time of 58.23 seconds. Caleb Brown placed fourth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 18.00m.
Both the men and women closed out the day with top-five finishes in the 4x400 with the women finishing third (3:58.34) and the men finishing fifth (3:20.92).
Troy returns to action Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Samford Invite in Birmingham.
