TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics will unveil a special new addition at The Vet during Saturday's Sun Belt opener against Arkansas State with a permanent POW/MIA Chair of Honor located in the South End Zone Plaza.
Â
"Words cannot express the amount of gratitude we owe the men and women of our armed forces," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "Troy University has a deep connection with the United States Military, and that is a relationship we take seriously. The Chair of Honor will serve as a permanent memorial to all of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and as a way for our fans to honor those brave souls every time they enter Veterans Memorial Stadium."
Â
The POW/MIA Chair of Honor program is in partnership with Hussey Seating. The Chair of Honor is to remain perpetually empty to help people remember that even though our soldiers are not here, there is always space for them.Â
Â
POW-MIA Chairs of Honor can be found not only in big sports stadiums but also in small-town city halls and a variety of public spaces in between. The POW/MIA Chair of Honor program began in Boston in 2012 and has since spread throughout the country. It was developed to honor the more than 92,000 service members who remain unaccounted for since World War I.
