Troy Returns Home For Trojan Classic

TROY, Ala. – Troy returns to Trojan Arena Friday and Saturday following a road trip to St. Louis. The Trojans are set to host Citadel, Southern and Florida A&M at the Trojan Classic Sept. 20-21.

"This is our last weekend for us to get ready for conference play," head coach Josh Lauer said. "Our preparation for this week and our attention to detail this weekend is going to be really important for us moving forward."

Troy (7-2) is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Billiken Invitational where the Trojans picked up wins over UT Martin and Marshall. The Trojans' 7-2 record is the best start for a Troy team since 2014 (8-1) and the second best in the Sun Belt.

"We had a long road trip last weekend," Lauer said. "We're looking forward to being back in a routine and being back in front of our fans. I think everyone is looking forward to being back home."

Player to Watch
Ashley Guenveur had a terrific outing at the Billiken Invitational, recording back-to-back double-doubles against UT Martin and Marshall. The freshman posted 11 kills and 16 digs against UT Martin and 16 kills and 12 digs against Marshall en route to being named to the all-tournament team.

Guenveur is in the top five of several team statistical categories. The Wauwatosa, Wis. native is second in kills/set (2.63), third in kills (71) and fourth in digs (67).

"[Ashley] is very stable as a freshman," Lauer said. "She understands if one area of her game is not going well, there's a lot of other areas she can contribute and make the team better. She has the potential to be a double-double machine."

Troy Volleyball Quick Hitters

The Trojans' 7-2 record is the best start for a Troy team since 2014 (8-1) and the second best in the Sun Belt.
Starting Fast: Troy has won the first set of the match in seven straight matches. The Trojans are 5-3 this season when winning the opening set.
Troy currently leads the Sun Belt in kills/set (13.71) and assists/set (12.55). The Trojans are also fourth in the league in service aces (49) and blocks/set (1.94).
Ashley Guenveur recorded back-to-back double-doubles against UT Martin (11 K/16 DIG) and Marshall (16 K/ 12).
Cheyenne Hayes broke the school record for most kills in a four-set match with 28 against Marshall (Previous best: 24, Maria Zelenovic vs. UTA in 2014). Hayes' 4.71 kills/set ranks first in the Sun Belt and 21st nationally. She also leads the league in points (160.5).
Amara Anderson has recorded a conference-high 11.16 assists/set this season, which is also the 16th-most in the nation.
Lacey Jeffcoat has registered 15 service aces this season, which ranks third in the conference. Additionally, her 121 digs are the seventh-most in the league so far this season.
Natalie Hummel is tied for the eighth-most aces in the Sun Belt with 12 on the year.
