Carles Anton earns his first career collegiate championship title

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Troy University men's tennis program opened its fall season in thrilling fashion as freshman Carles Anton won his first collegiate tournament championship.

Anton started Sunday needing two singles victories to walk away from his first tournament crown. Anton opened semifinal action against Jeremy Taylor of Memphis. After dropping the opening set 1-6, Anton battles back to take set two, 7-6. The two played a 10-point super-tiebreak with Anton coming away with the win by a score of 10-6 to advance to the finals.

In the championship match Anton took on Niklas Gerdes of Chattanooga. In the finals Anton grabbed the early edge with a 6-4 set one win. After dropping the second set 2-6, Anton was forced to compete in yet another super tiebreak. Just like in his first match Anton was locked in when the pressure was at its greatest, defeating Gerdes 10-8 in the super tiebreak to win his first career collegiate tournament championship.
