Futrell’s Hot Start Continues for Troy Men’s Golf

RUSTON, La. – Connor Futrell continued his torrid start to the 2019-20 season with a 3-under 69 to lead Troy in Sunday's opening round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek. Troy is tied for eighth place overall and within striking distance of a top finish.
Futrell is tied for second place thanks to a round that featured six birdies, and he is just two shots off the pace. The Tallahassee, Florida native is fresh of a school record 7-under in Troy's opening event of the year. Futrell actually started the day in the black at 2-over following four holes. However, he made the turn at 1-under thanks to birdies on three of the next five holes. A bogey on No. 9 brought him even before three more birdies set the card at 3-under.
Brent Hamm had a steady round with a pair of birdies and just one bogey to shoot 1-under and sit tied for 12th place, while Jake Tiffin is 2-over and tied for 38th place. Will McFadden and Nicklas Borrmann struggled to find consistency all day and shot rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.
Playing as individuals, Ryan Morrison is tied for 58th following a 5-over 77 and Bryson Bianco is a shot back in a tie for 67th place.
Lamar holds a three-shot lead over Georgia on the team side of things with Texas State, Mercer and Louisiana Tech rounding out the top five.
Troy will play Monday's second round beginning at 9:40 a.m. along with New Orleans, Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana Tech's B team.
