ShaeLee Scarberry Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Match Play

TROY, Alabama – Incoming Troy sophomore ShaeLee Scarberry has qualified for the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. Scarberry is the No. 59 seed after tying for 54th place in the stroke play portion of the event at 3-over through a pair of rounds.

Scarberry will take on No. 6 seeded Gabriela Ruffels from Australia in the opening round of match play beginning at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday. Ruffels, a rising junior at USC, shot 4-under in stroke play to tie for fifth place.Â

The native of Purcell, Okla., shot 1-over in the opening round with a birdie and a pair of bogeys and followed with a round of 2-over in Tuesday's second round including four birdies. A win on Wednesday for Scarberry sets up a matchup with the winner of No. 27 Doey Choi (Australia) and Haylin Harris (Carmel, Ind.) at 9:35 a.m. on Thursday.

Scarberry has had a busy summer as she won the 2019 Women's Oklahoma Golf Association Stroke Play Championship in June. Scarberry transferred to Troy over the summer after playing her freshman season at Tulsa where she posted a 75.08 stroke average and turned in a trio of top-25 performances. She was a three-time Oklahoma 3A individual state champion at Purcell High School and won the WOGA Jr. State Championship in 2017.
