TROY, Alabama – The Dudley NJCAA Softball Division I Player of the Year Candela Figueroa signed with the Trojans head coach Beth Mullins announced on Tuesday.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Candela into the Troy Family," Mullins said. "The minute we watched her play, and then met with her, we knew she needed to be a Troy Trojan."
Â
The Entre Rios, Argentina native comes to Troy after a stellar two seasons at Chipola College where she helped lead the Lady Indians to a national championship following a 51-5-1 season this year.
Â
Figueroa was also named a NJCAA Division I First Team All-American, First Team All-Panhandle Conference, Panhandle Conference Player of the Year and the NJCAA Division I Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Â
Figueroa is expected to make an impact for the Trojans both at the plate and on the base paths. Last season, she finished the season batting .513 with 20 doubles, five triples and 14 home runs. On the bases, the catcher/outfielder went 66-for-71 in stolen base attempts.
Â
"She is an extremely talented athlete and an even better person," Mullins said. "She is going to be a great fit here, and we plan on her making an immediate impact on and off the field for this program."
Â
The junior will have two years of eligibility at Troy.
