2019-20 Signing Class | Tyrek Williams Highlights
TROY, Ala. – Troy men's basketball has signed Tyrek Williams for the 2019-20 season as announced by head coach Scott Cross on Tuesday morning.
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Tyrek Williams to our basketball program," Cross said. "In my opinion, he is one of the most underrated big men in the country."
Williams, a 6-foot-8 250-pound forward comes from Combine Academy in Matthews, NC. At Combine, Williams averaged a double-double in 17.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. The Chesterfield, Va., native shot the ball at a high clip knocking down 54 percent of his shots from the field and 31 percent from behind the arc.
"He has great size, great footwork, good hands, and a soft touch," Cross said. "He also has the ability to extend the defense because he can step out and knock down the open 3. However, I believe that what separates Tyrek from most post players is his ability to pass the basketball."
"He is an exceptional passer, and we will definitely utilize his ability to pass out of the high and low post. Tyrek is an 'OKG' because he is a high character, high production, selfless basketball player that will make us better!"
Williams is the seventh Troy signee in the 2019-20 signing class, joining two other high school seniors and four junior college transfers.
Quotable – Lee DeFrost, Combine Academy Head Coach
"Tyrek played great against our best competition," DeFrost said. "Once he gets a strength coach full time, he will be dominant. He is skilled, long and can play."
