TROY, Alabama - Troy softball signee Libby Baker was named the 2019 Alabama Miss Softball, the Alabama Sports Writers Association announced Sunday night at the organization's annual convention in Hoover. Baker marks the third consecutive Alabama Miss Softball signed by the Trojans.
Â
Troy has inked the last three players to earn Alabama Miss Softball honors after signing Annie Willis in 2017 and Leanna Johnson in 2018. The Trojans become the first school in history to sign consecutive players who have received the Miss Softball accolade.
Â
"I am really proud of the fact that this is Troy Softball's third Miss Softball in a row," head coach Beth Mullins said. "I think it shows the pride our staff takes in recruiting the best talent in the state year in and year out."
Â
Baker earns the award after leading G.W Long to a 53-3 record topped off by a state championship this season. The senior ended her season batting a .559 clip with a single-season state record 37 home runs. Baker ranks within the top 10 in state history with 101 RBIs and set a national record with 87 career home runs.
Â
The dual threat also compiled a 20-1 record from inside the circle with five saves. Â As a senior, she recorded a 0.27 ERA and 271 strikeouts over 130 innings of work. Baker threw 16 shutouts, five no-hitters and four perfect games.
Â
"I am beyond proud of Libby and the senior year she has had, and we are proud to call her a Troy Trojan," said Mullins. "She is unique in that she is going to have the ability to come in and make an impact both at the plate and on the mound."
