Troy Comes Up Short In Conference Tournament

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Trojans tournament play came to an end after dropping the tournament opener to Coastal Carolina, 4-2, before falling in a 10-inning heartbreaker to ULM, 3-0, Thursday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
Senior Madeline Porter led the Trojans offensive efforts going 3-for-8 in the tournament while Katie Webb and Bailey Taylor both checked in behind her with a pair of hits apiece.
Game One: Coastal Carolina 4, Troy 2
The Chanticleers (38-19) struck first in the top of the third inning when Stavi Augur sent a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Troy answered in the bottom of the third inning Madeline Porter came around to score off of a wild pitch after getting on with a single to right field.
Natalie David sent Coastal Carolina's second two-run homer over the left center wall in the bottom of the fourth.
The Trojans scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning with hits by Stephanie Snyder and Hope Hernandez but could not complete the comeback.
Ashley Guillette (15-7) earned the victory for the Chanticleers scattering four hits and fanning four batters.
Leanna Johnson (25-9) suffered the loss after giving up four runs off of three hits, a walk and a hit by pitch.
Game Two: ULM 3. Troy 0
The Warhawks (13-41walked-off the game in the top of the 10th inning with a three-run home run hit by Jayden Mount.
A lightning delay halted the game for 40 minutes in the top of the seventh inning, but still the game remained a pitcher's duel throughout the first nine innings of action.
Until the 10th inning of action, the teams saw runners in scoring position a combined nine times, but Adrianna Chavarria (8-14) and Johnson were able to work their ways out of the inning to keep both teams at bay.
In the top of the 10th inning, Megan Shaw got on with a single to right center and Korie Kreps drew a walk to set up Mount for the three-run shot.
Chavarria struck out eight batters, scattered six hits, and walked just three batters through 10 innings of play to shutout the Trojans in the extra-innings victory.
Johnson suffered the loss for the Trojans allowing seven hits and three walks through 9.2 innings of work. The freshman fanned five batters in the contest.
