Baseball Hosts ULM to Close out Home Schedule

TROY, Alabama – Troy puts a bow on its home baseball schedule this weekend with a three-game Sun Belt series against ULM at Riddle-Pace Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Troy will honor its four seniors – Sadler Goodwin, Rush Hixon, Cole Prestegard and Chase Smartt – prior to Sunday's series finale while the whole series will serve as Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Weekend.

The three-game series is critical for both squads as the league heads into the final two weekends of play before the Sun Belt Tournament. Troy (25-24, 12-12) is just a game out of first place in a jam-packed East Division – four teams are separated by one game – but the Trojans would be the seven seed in the tournament if it started today. ULM (22-25, 10-13) is clinging on to the final spot in the tournament by half a game over rival Louisiana.

Troy has won five of its last six Sun Belt series on the strength of strong starting pitching and some pop from the bats. The Trojans have blasted 55 home runs on the season, its most since the NCAA changed the bats prior to the 2011 season, including 15 homers in their last five games.

Since moving to the rotation, Cory Gill (6-2, 3.79) has been the definition of a true Friday-night starter for the Trojans with a 6-1 record and 3.53 ERA while Levi Thomas has posted a 2.25 ERA with 16 strikeouts over his last three starts.

SCOUTING ULM
ULM enters the final two weeks of the season in the No. 10 and final spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament standings, just a half game up on rival Louisiana. The Warhawks come to Troy following back-to-back series wins over UT Arlington and Arkansas State to get themselves back in the mix for a tournament berth. Andrew Beesley leads ULM batting at a .354 clip while game two starter Ty Barnes is the reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after tossing a shutout at UT Arlington last weekend.
